80's Los Angeles
In this project I knew a lot of the cultural aspect and not so much of the political and economical impact in 80’s LA. The political aspect wasn’t so much fixed in LA and more what had happen for example Ronald Reagan's election and the start of the war in Iraq. LA’s economical growth caught me by surprise since most of the photos I've seen have been people looking for jobs, when in fact that was the reason why LA’s economy was booming.
Seeing the similarities of back than today are quite interesting and I came up with 2 connections that I see between the 80’s and today are fashion and dancing. I see a lot of people still wearing 80’s fashion and I don’t mean power suits and shoulder pads, but I often see high waist pants, colorful windbreakers, and denim jackets. Dancing has definitely changed but the hype and dedication that people are expressing is the same energy that was making 80’s break dancing so popular.
Out of all of the artifacts that we made in this project, my favorite artifact has got to be the dance not because It was my artifact, but because it was very interactive and tons of fun. It was a huge pain learning and finding the time to practice my dance moves, but in the end it was so worth it.
Through out the project, an area that I learned the most during this project was the cultural because I spent so much time into it seeing why certain things were popular and what made it so popular. I did know a lot about 80’s LA’s pop culture before we started the project what I was able to learn the why aspect and not just what was popular. If I were to change anything in this project it would be my art piece because I rushed to finish it on the last day since I was occupied with all the other artifacts.
For the project we had to read a book that set in our decade, and the book that we read for the project was called 1984 and it was based on superpower nations using the Big Brother system and brainwashing society that by Big Brother’s rules was the only way to live, but a certain individual named Winston thinks otherwise.

For the potluck the food I brought that related to 80's LA was donuts because of the famous Randy's Donuts shop that is in LA
